LCD Display Gaskets

Rail

Gasket or seals often fail due to environmental exposure, abuse, deterioration, stiffening and inability to rebound after being compressed. Gaskets used on LCD and display electronic are likely to perform some or all the following functions:

Gaskets are used on LCD /displays to seal the enclosure at the edge of the viewing area to prevent the entry of dust, dirt or moisture. This function can be particularly important for electronic devices used in outdoor applications.

Gaskets are often used on electronic devices to fill the gap between the screen or display and the surrounding housing (bezel).

In electronic displays, pressure points are often created between the display and the housing. A gasket can help to distribute the pressure evenly and create a more uniform load around the display.

Gaskets on electronic devices and displays can offer protection against vibration caused by friction, vibration or impact.

On touchscreen devices, gaskets can provide back-of-display cushioning against the pressure exerted on the display by users.

CB Frost supplies a variety of compliant EN45545-2 materials suitable for sealing LCDs and displays units in Rail and when deciding on a suitable sealing material all the above points need to be considered. Below is a list of materials which we have used in rail for LCD/Displays.

BISCO® HT800 Silicone Foam

HT800 can be manufactured into environmental seals to fit LCD/Display units to protect against the penetration of dust, moisture, air or light within outdoor applications, sealing effectively up to an IP66 rating.

BISCO® BF1000 Silicone Foam

BF1000 can be manufactured into environmental seals to fit LCD/Display units to protect against the penetration of dust, moisture, air or light within outdoor applications.

BISCO® BF2000 Silicone Foam

BF2000 is an ultra-soft density, low smoke, low toxicity, fire resistant silicone sponge, ozone & UV, available in colour black. BF2000 can be manufactured into environmental seals to fit LCD/Display units to protect against the penetration of dust, moisture, air or light within outdoor applications.

MF775 (FR8775) Silicone Rubber

MF775 (FR8775) can be die-cut and stripped from sheet material, extruded or moulded to form a gasket suitable for protection against the penetration of dust and moisture in LCD/Display and electronic devices within the rail industry when fire compliance standards must be adhered to.

MF775 silicone rubber can be produced in 3 formats, rolls which can then be slit to width (strips) or punched (die-cut) to form a gasket using our overhead presses. Extruded to shape, from simple U channels to more complex sections and finally moulded to suit the light fitting you are trying to seal within or outside of the rail vehicle.

LSLT Neoprene Sponge

LSLT (low smoke, low toxicity) neoprene sponge is fully closed cell and conforms to rail specification EN45545-2 (refer to our data sheet for test data). A cost-effective compliant sponge suitable for mainly indoor applications as resistance to UV/Ozone is classed as only being good (HT800, BF1000 or BF2000 Silicone sponge would be more suitable for high UV/Ozone) or where resistance to oils is required.

LSLT neoprene sponge has good resistance to abrasion and with a working temperature of -50°C to 110°C LSLT neoprene is a well-suited sponge for various rail applications.

LSLT EPDM (EPDM to EN45545-2) Rubber

LSLT EPDM rubber is available in 50, 60 & 70 shore A hardness and has excellent environmental resistance, withstanding Ozone, UV, rain, and frost. LSLT EPDM rubber is also resistant to corrosion, moisture, salt, and light fuels meaning the material is ideally suited for outdoor applications such as door and window seals, lighting systems and enclosures which need to be water and dust tight.

LSLT EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) has been independently tested and certified by leading fire test laboratories throughout Europe and has been approved to fire safety standard EN45545-2 for rail.
