Silicone

Silicone is an incredibly versatile product because it can be synthesised into different forms, we stock Silicone sponge and rubber products here at CBFrost.

Silicone rubber is a useful material because it doesn't react with most chemicals , has resistance to extreme temperatures and has excellent UV and ozone properties. These properties give it a wide range uses including medical, mass transit (namely rail) and outdoor applications.

Silicone Sponge is equally as useful although has slightly different properties including compressibilty and softness while also retaining the durability of other forms of Silicone. This makes it ideal for providing shock absorption and heat insulation for electronics as well as cushioning and vibration isolation for various applications.

The History Of Silicone

Electrical Insulation

Scientists have been working with silicone from as early as 1823, although the first commercially useful silicone product came in the 1940s, when Dr. J. Franklin Hyde of Corning Glass produced a silicone resin for impregnating and coating glass cloth used in electrical insulation.

In the 20 years following this first use case, a couple of additional notable products were created using silicone; one of the fastest selling products in history, Silly Putty. Shortly followed by silicone leather treatment.

Computer Technology

In the 1980s, silicone's played a major role in advancements in computer technology, telecommunications and all other related fields that rely on the microchip. Silicone's resistance to extreme temperatures and contamination made it an ideal material to protect products within circuit boards that were prone to over-heating.
